Keziliqiman Formation

Keziliqiman Fm

Period:
Permian

Age Interval:
P1 (27, 28), Cisuralian Epoch (Early Permian)

Province:
Xinjiang

Type Locality and Naming

The type section is located at Keziliqiman to the southwest of the Pishan County Town, Xinjiang. It was named by Zhao Zhixin et al., in 1984.

Lithology and Thickness

Limestone. It is divisible into two parts. Lower part is composed of grey-white, light-grey, dark-grey and black-grey medium-, and thick-bedded dolomitic limestone, dolomite and shelly limestone. Its basal part is composed of dolomite. Upper part is composed of interbeds of thin-bedded limestone, shelly limestone together with grey-black siltstone and light-yellow siltstone, intercalated with thin-bedded limestone, shelly limestone and dolomite, with its top part consisting of grey, purple and black-grey calcareous silty siltstone, intercalated with carbonaceous siltstone.Total thickness is 131 m.

Lithology Pattern:
Dolomitic limestone

Relationships and Distribution

Lower contact

Conformable contact with the medium- and thick-bedded limestone of the underlying Tahaqi Fm.

Upper contact

Conformable contacts (locally) with the overlying marine Qipan Fm or with the continental Pusige Fm (see Regional extent below).

Regional extent

Distributed in the Tahaqi area of Pishan County (with a thickness of 211 m), the Keziliqiman and Qipan areas of Yecheng County (with a thickness of 283 m), as well as the Heshilapu area of Shache County (with a thickness of 432 m), with its thickness getting smaller in a direction from west to east. In the Qipan area of the western part the overlying marine Qipan Fm and in the Duwa area of eastern part the overlying continental Pusige Fm seem to be in conformable contacts with the formation. The Nanzha Fm (Liu Chao’an, 1991) in the Tadongbei and Bachu areas is corresponding to the formation.
